I started fencing at the age of ten, and was trained in all three weapons. I fenced for my school and region, and then university.
It was at university that I started coaching, but it wasn’t until I came to Northampton that I started to teach seriously. I have been lucky to train under several excellent fencing masters including John Llewellyn (Reading) and Prof Andy Vincent (Stockport), and had a successful competitive career.
I undertook my coach eduction with the British Academy of Fencing, through which I was awarded my épée diploma (level 5) in 2015. I am a Maître d’Escrime of the B.A.F. and the International Fencing Coaches' Association, and moniteur of the Académie d’Armes International.
As well as coaching at the club, I am the épée coach for the University of Cambridge Modern Pentathlon team.
