Paul Willmott

President, level one foil & epee coach, Covid-19 Officer
I started fencing in 2001 and have since qualified as a level one coach in foil and epee.

I have represented Great Britain in the European (veteran) championships in France in 2010 , and have represented both East Midlands and Eastern Region at the senior Winton Cup . in addition , I have captained the Midlands Epee team in the Veteran Winton Cup.

A regular on the senior fencing circuit throughout the fencing season , I achieved my ambition of a top 100 fencer ranking in the 2011/12 season.

Over the years I have won gold at the Northamptonshire County Epee championships, the Bedfordshire Epee championships, and have medaled at both county and regional competitions in all three weapons (foil, epee and sabre).

In 2012 I won Bronze medal at the Marburg fencing championships in Germany.

Paul Drake

Armourer, Level 1 Epee Coach
I started fencing in 1999 at an Adult Education evening class in Rushden. I was hooked after the first night. I joined NFC a couple of years later. Like many people I started with foil, but I switched to epee after a few years.

I started competing in opens in about 2006, achieving my best National Ranking of 163 in 2011. My best individual result at an Open was Bronze at the Castle Carrick tournament in Belfast in 2009.

I joined the British Veterans Association in 2008 so that I could attend the Armourer’s Course. I took over as Club Armourer shortly after that. I am now a level 2 qualified Armourer.

As a Vet I represented Great Britain at the European Championships in France in 2011. Although I only managed 198th out of 225 I feel that I performed well and the result did not really reflect how well I fenced.

I qualified as a Grade 1 Epee Coach a number of years ago, and sometimes gives basic epee lessons to try to entice foilists over to ‘the dark side’.
